Precision isn't a hobby. It's a practice.
Anyone can fly a drone. Very few can hand a client a deliverable they can make a decision with. Two courses. One standard. Both run inside a working commercial practice, not beside it.
Real deliverables · Every intake
Two kinds of drone operators. Only one gets hired twice.
The gap between them isn't talent or gear. It's what they hand the client at the end of the job.
Produces photos
Flies a drone, captures a site, produces a stitched image and a folder of JPEGs. The client can look at the output. They can't measure it. It goes in a slide deck and gets forgotten.
Produces information
Plans a mission against a deliverable spec, places ground control, processes to a documented accuracy, and hands over a package the client's engineer, insurer, or regulator can act on. That's what gets remembered.
Five deliverables. Every intake.
Both courses train you to a real deliverable package. What differs is depth. Here's what a finished commercial output looks like. The same five outputs you'll produce yourself.
Deliverable 01
Orthomosaic
Millimetre-accurate corrected imagery, georeferenced to survey-grade accuracy. The foundation deliverable every client expects.
Deliverable 02
Classified point cloud
Ground versus non-ground separation. The basis for everything else in the pipeline, from terrain modelling to volumetric analysis.
Deliverable 03
DSM & DTM
Surface and terrain models with contour output. For earthworks, drainage, and volumetric work where accuracy matters.
Deliverable 04
3D mesh model
Navigable digital twin. The asset owner's copy that lives in their browser for years. No software required to view.
Client-ready package
Every deliverable, professionally presented and documented to the standard clients actually receive. Processing report, accuracy statement, delivery note with the Independent Validation line. What makes the difference between a hobbyist's output and a commercial operator's.
Built on PIX4Dmatic. The way the industry already works.
There are cheaper tools. There are simpler tools. There is one platform the engineers, surveyors, and asset managers who write the briefs already recognise, and it's the one we teach on. Not because it's convenient for us. Because it's what a client's team can open.
Pix4D builds a suite of tools that run the full pipeline, from field capture to client-ready output. We teach on the pieces that matter for commercial reality capture in Australia.
PIX4Dmatic
The photogrammetry engine. Turns overlapping aerial imagery into georeferenced deliverables at commercial scale. Handles real datasets. Thousands of images, documented accuracy, quality-report output at the end. This is the tool both courses teach on, and the one your clients already recognise.
PIX4Dcloud
Browser-based processing and delivery. Upload, process, share. From anywhere with an internet connection. Used in the course to show how teams collaborate on a project, and to give students cloud credits on the PDC training org for their own practice after the course.
PIX4Dcatch
Handheld capture. Turn a phone or tablet into a photogrammetry input device. For interior scans, tight access, or as a supplement to aerial work. Covered as an extension of the commercial pipeline, for jobs that aren't a good fit for a drone.
We teach on the tool your client's engineer already opens.
A GeoTIFF processed in any photogrammetry tool looks the same. What differs is whether the client's surveyor trusts it. PIX4Dmatic produces a processing report with documented RMS, checkpoint validation, and quality controls a professional engineer can audit. That's the difference between a deliverable and an image.
Both PDC courses are delivered on the Pix4D Certified Trainer Program. Students walk out as verified operators on the platform the market already knows.
Short is the entry. Long is the destination.
Both run inside the same working commercially-operating practice. Same instructors, same equipment, same standard. The short course gets you certified and in the field. The long course adds the software depth that turns a deliverable into a career. You can stop at either, or step up from one to the other within 14 days.
PDC Introduction to Aerial Surveying
The fast start. For career-changers, tradies, up-skillers, and pilots testing the water before committing to the full five days. A live field day, a processing introduction, and two credentials at the end.
- Flight preparation and mission planning
- One live field capture day
- PIX4Dmatic processing introduction
- Two credentials on completion
PDC Advanced Aerial Surveying
The full path. Software depth, a live field day, post-processing, deliverables, and three credentials at the end. The natural destination for short course graduates, and the primary product for direct enrolments.
- Full PIX4Dmatic software depth
- Live field capture day
- Full deliverable package, five outputs
- Three credentials on completion
Not sure which one fits?
Most of the time it's obvious from where you're starting from. When it isn't, a lapsed RePL, an overseas credential, or a career that could go either way, a two-minute conversation usually settles it. Send us a message.
Four credentials. Stacked in your name.
Neither course issues a single certificate. Both issue a stack. Different credentials for different audiences: the regulator, the software industry, and the client who needs somebody they can trust with their asset. The stack is what opens the door.
Commercial Drone Operators Certificate
The legal credential that authorises commercial drone operations in Australia. Earned before Day 1 through the pre-course. Every serious client and insurer asks for it by name.
Both coursesPIX4Dmatic Certified Operator
Verification on the photogrammetry platform the industry standardises on. Examined on the final day. Places the operator on Pix4D's global register of certified professionals.
Long coursePDC Advanced Aerial Surveying
Confirms the operator can produce a full commercial deliverable. Pipeline, quality control, and advanced extraction, assessed against the production-grade criteria PDC holds its own commercial work to.
Long coursePDC Introduction to Aerial Surveying
Confirms the operator has completed the entry-level program. Flight preparation, a live field day, and a processing pipeline run end to end on real data. The gateway into the industry.
Short courseProves the operator is legal. Every commercial drone operation in Australia runs under a CDOC. CASA requires it before the aircraft leaves the ground.
Proves the operator knows the platform engineers and asset managers already trust. Verification is not a printed certificate. It is a place on Pix4D's global register of certified operators.
Proves the operator can produce the work. Long-form graduates are assessed against the same production-grade criteria PDC holds its own commercial work to. A full deliverable package, reviewed line by line.
Proves the foundation. Short-form graduates leave with a completed processing pipeline, a live field day, and the discipline to move into commercial work on their own.
What you actually do, day by day.
Three days plus the pre-course. One theory day, one field day, one processing day. The compressed arc that gets you certified and working inside the commercial pipeline.
Before Day 1. Three things happen.
The pre-course sits in front of every intake. Confirmed RePL holders get the modules but can skip straight into Day 1.

Flight preparation, mission planning, and PIX4Dmatic foundations
Day 1 · Online
Flight preparation, mission planning, and PIX4Dmatic foundations
Day 1 · OnlineDay 1 delivers the flight preparation and mission planning framework you need before any commercial capture: the eight operating rules, site and desk planning, and the risk-assessment discipline the field day assumes.
PIX4Dmatic opens on the workbook sample project in the afternoon. The pipeline, the four core concepts, project setup, folder structure, coordinate system, through to the first calibration. You finish Day 1 having flown no aircraft, but with a working account, a full project set up correctly, and a GCP file ready to import.
02
Survey capture, field day
Day 2 · On site
Survey capture, field day
Day 2 · On siteThe field day runs on a real site. Commercial enterprise drones with RTK positioning, EMLID GNSS receivers, and ground control kit. Mission planned, ground control placed, capture executed to a survey-grade accuracy the client's surveyor can audit.
What you capture on the field day is a real dataset. Captured at survey-grade accuracy, ready to process into a portfolio deliverable on the same pipeline we teach. It is also exactly what a commercial client sees from a PDC capture commission.
03
PIX4Dmatic continued, full pipeline to finished deliverables
Day 3 · Online
PIX4Dmatic continued, full pipeline to finished deliverables
Day 3 · OnlineDay 3 runs a workbook sample project through the pipeline to a finished deliverable set. A reference dataset specifically designed for training, so the moment-by-moment teaching never stalls on hardware speed or download time. GCP marking, calibration QC, and reading the RMS at each control point to decide whether to proceed.
Then the quality report: general and detailed, the mean, sigma, and RMS, and where an outlier actually lives in the numbers. Afternoon delivers the outputs. Orthomosaic, DSM, DTM with contours, classified point cloud, and mesh. Exports in the client's format, the delivery note with the Independent Validation line, and the full pipeline run end to end. You finish Day 3 with a completed deliverable set, signed off against the same production-grade criteria we hold our own commercial work to.
The full pipeline, start to finish.
Five days plus the pre-course. Same front of the arc as the short course, then two extra days for software depth, the own-data pipeline, the extraction layer, and the PIX4D certification exam.

Own-data pipeline, extraction layer, and advanced workflows
Day 4 · Online
Own-data pipeline, extraction layer, and advanced workflows
Day 4 · OnlineDay 4 runs against a professionally captured dataset that mirrors your field day capture, staged at four milestone points so you work through every stage of the pipeline on data that starts exactly where your own field capture started. Stage 0 is raw images. Stage 1 is calibrated. Stage 2 is dense cloud and mesh. Stage 3 is final outputs. You work through each stage in sequence, on data that's staged so your hardware never becomes the bottleneck.
The extraction layer sits here. Advanced pipeline workflows: PPK-first processing, arbitrary coordinate systems, Ray Cloud QC, deep extraction for volumetric work and asset inspection. Deliverable depth beyond the standard five outputs. This is the day the difference between a photo set and a commercial deliverable becomes something you build yourself, end-to-end, on real data.

Deliver Commercially and the PIX4D certification exam
Day 5 · Online
Deliver Commercially and the PIX4D certification exam
Day 5 · OnlineDay 5 turns capability into a career. The commercial layer first: reading the brief, pricing the work, delivery conversations, follow-up discipline, and the structure a solo practice actually runs on. This is where the technical capability becomes a business.
Then the PIX4D certification exam. We sit it together, live, and the trainer aids your approach through it rather than watching you work alone. One attempt is included in your course fee. By close of day you're walking out with three credentials issued under your name: CASA CDOC, PIX4Dmatic Certified Operator, and PDC Advanced Aerial Surveying.
You don't just walk out with a certificate.
Every student leaves with a complete commercial toolkit, built for real practice, not just the exam. The same materials and support we use to run our own business. The best of them leave with something more.
Complete commercial forms library
Every form, checklist, job sheet, and post-flight document we use on real commercial work. Yours to take into your own practice from the very first job.
Commercial pricing structures
How we actually price work. Quote templates, invoice structures, client-facing deliverable formats. The same documents we run our own business on. Not theory.
Post-course support
Direct access to your instructors after the last day. Commercial questions, technical queries, second opinions on pricing. A straight answer from a working operator, not silence.
Full Advanced Knowledge library
Every module closes with a Full Advanced Knowledge section. The professional depth behind the core material. Regulatory context, commercial discipline, forensic standards, and a concept-level look at where the industry is heading.
The best leave with more than a certificate. They leave with work.
Long-form graduates who stand out during the course are invited onto PDC's operator certificate. Real commercial capture work under our ReOC, on real jobs, for real clients. It's how the top of our cohort lands in the industry with a running start rather than a cold start. Not everyone gets the call. The ones who do go straight onto PDC capture work under our ReOC.
This is where the certification takes you.
Not part of the curriculum. This is the level of work your certification unlocks in the years after. The Quarry: a three-storey mansion in Keperra, captured from ground up across the full construction cycle. Multi-stage grade control, third-party inspection requirements, defensible documentation for council and banking review.
Twelve months from now, this is the kind of project you'd be quoting.
Walk through it in 3DTwo pathways. Four products.
Standard pathway if you're new to drones. RePL pathway if you already hold a Remote Pilot Licence: you skip the pre-course day and pay less. Pick your pathway. Then pick your course. Everything starts here.
Starting from scratch
For aspiring commercial drone pilots, tradies, up-skillers, and career-changers entering commercial aerial surveying for the first time. No prior drone certification assumed. You learn everything from the legal foundation through to the delivered output.
Already flying
For Remote Pilot Licence holders. You've already passed the legal and flight foundation. Skip the pre-course day and join from Day 1. Same instructors, same sites, same standard. The price drops to reflect the work you've already done.
Long course starts with a $1,000 deposit. The balance is invoiced when you confirm your intake date: paid in full or spread through Afterpay. The short course has no deposit. The whole fee is paid at checkout.
Card, Klarna, and Afterpay accepted across all products.
Not sure which course or pathway fits, or want to ask a question before you commit? Send us a message and we'll reply same business day.
Start short. Step up when you're ready.
Finish the short course, then join the next long-form intake at Day 4. Same cohort, same instructors, no special handling. The upgrade credit applies within 14 days of finishing the short course. The fast decision gets the lower number.
Your employer can pay. We'll invoice them directly.
Many of our students are company-sponsored. Safety leads upskilling their team, businesses adding aerial survey capability, or contractors formalising crew certification.
We issue clean invoices against an ABN with the course listed as an ex GST line item, so your employer can claim the GST back on their next BAS.
Request an invoice in one email.
Send us your company name, ABN, the student's name, and which course and pathway suits. We'll come back same business day with a formal invoice ready for your accounts team.
The five questions we're asked most.
What's the difference between the short and long courses?
The depth of the software work, and the credentials. Short form is three days. Long form is five. Both run the same field day, the same theory foundation, and the same full-pipeline processing day, then long form adds Day 4 (the own-data pipeline and extraction layer) and Day 5 (Deliver Commercially and the PIX4D certification exam).
The short form earns two credentials: CASA CDOC and PDC Introduction to Aerial Surveying. The long form earns three: CASA CDOC, PIX4Dmatic Certified Operator, and PDC Advanced Aerial Surveying. The long form is the commercial path. The short form is the entry.
Do I need to own a drone or buy any equipment?
No. All flight equipment is provided: commercial enterprise drones with RTK positioning, EMLID GNSS receivers, ground control kit, the full field setup, and the PIX4Dmatic licence on our training org. You'll fly the same class of platform you'd buy for your own practice once certified.
What you do need is a laptop capable of running PIX4Dmatic. We'll confirm specs with you before Day 1.
What's the difference between the Standard and RePL pathways?
The pre-course, not the outcome. RePL holders already know how to fly and hold CASA certification, so they skip the pre-course day and join from Day 1. Both pathways then cover the same content at the same standard.
The RePL pathway is $501 cheaper on the long course and $200 cheaper on the short course, reflecting the day you don't need. The credentials are identical in either pathway.
Can I pay by deposit or instalments?
Yes, on the long course. Reserve your seat with a $1,000 deposit. The balance is invoiced when you confirm your intake date, paid in full or spread through Afterpay. Card, Klarna, and Afterpay all work on the balance.
The short course has no deposit path. The full fee is paid at checkout, Card, Klarna, or Afterpay in one transaction.
Can I upgrade from the short course to the long course?
Yes, that's what the upgrade path is for. Finish the short course and join the next long-form intake at Day 4. Same cohort as direct enrolments, same instructors, no special handling.
The upgrade credit is $1,501 ex GST if you take it within 14 days of finishing the short course, or $1,801 after. You've already covered the front of the long course, so the upgrade adds the software depth, the own-data pipeline, and the PIX4D certification exam.
Reserve your seat. Start today for $1,000.
Four products, two courses, four credentials across them. The long course starts with a $1,000 deposit. Confirm your intake date whenever you're ready to travel.
Not sure which course or pathway fits? Send us a message. We reply same business day.
