Two courses. One standard.
The short course gets you in the air and certified. The long course takes you all the way to commercial delivery. Same practice, same instructors, same survey-grade standard. The difference is how far you go.
One standard.

Four credentials. Stacked in your name.
Neither course issues a single certificate. Both issue a stack. Different credentials for different audiences: the regulator, the software industry, and the client who needs somebody they can trust with their asset. The stack is what opens the door.
Commercial Drone Operators Certificate
The legal credential that authorises commercial drone operations in Australia. Earned before Day 1 through the pre-course. Every serious client and insurer asks for it by name.
Both coursesPIX4Dmatic Certified Operator
Verification on the photogrammetry platform the industry standardises on. Examined on the final day. Places the operator on Pix4D's global register of certified professionals.
Long coursePDC Advanced Aerial Surveying
Confirms the operator can produce a full commercial deliverable. Pipeline, quality control, and advanced extraction, assessed against the production-grade criteria PDC holds its own commercial work to.
Long coursePDC Introduction to Aerial Surveying
Confirms the operator has completed the entry-level program. Flight preparation, a live field day, and a processing pipeline run end to end on real data. The gateway into the industry.
Short courseProves the operator is legal. Every commercial drone operation in Australia runs under a CDOC. CASA requires it before the aircraft leaves the ground.
Proves the operator knows the platform engineers and asset managers already trust. Verification is not a printed certificate. It is a place on Pix4D's global register of certified operators.
Proves the operator can produce the work. Long-form graduates are assessed against the same production-grade criteria PDC holds its own commercial work to. A full deliverable package, reviewed line by line.
Proves the foundation. Short-form graduates leave with a completed processing pipeline, a live field day, and the discipline to move into commercial work on their own.
Built inside the practice. Not around it.
Most drone courses teach theory then send students into a hobbyist market. We do the opposite. The training is built from commercial work that's already happening, and the standards come from what clients actually pay for.
Live sites, not simulators
Every intake flies a real location chosen for the deliverable set it can produce. Residential digital twin, construction progress capture, or commercial infrastructure. The site varies, the discipline doesn't. What gets captured on the field day is exactly what gets processed the next day.
Curriculum built from commercial work
Every teaching point in either course originated from an actual job. A real client brief, a real coordinate-system decision, a real QC problem. Nothing is included because it's theoretically interesting. Everything is included because a working operator had to solve it on a paying job.
Assessed on real output
Both courses close with assessment. The long course adds the PIX4D certification exam and a full deliverable package that gets reviewed against the same production-grade criteria we apply to our own commercial work. The one clients care about is the one that grades what you actually produced.
Working operators, every intake
Every instructor runs commercial capture work. They're not career trainers. Intakes cap at ten so time on the equipment is real time, not queue time. Full commercial-grade kit provided: commercial enterprise drones, EMLID GNSS receivers, handheld LiDAR, and the PIX4Dmatic Pro licence on the PDC classroom org.
This is what graduates go on to build.
Not part of the curriculum. This is the level of work the certification unlocks in the years after. One of our commercial projects, shown as a live 3D model, so you can walk through what you're working towards.
A $40 Million Southbank landmark captured as a full interior and exterior digital twin. Heritage commercial venue, recorded at survey-grade accuracy. Every façade, every interior surface, every architectural detail in one navigable model.
- Full interior and exterior digital twin
- Heritage commercial venue at survey-grade accuracy
- Permanent record for condition and stakeholder access
Seven more digital twins are on the projects page. Residential, commercial, construction, insurance, and infrastructure. All openable in your browser.

The commercial shape of the certification, in the seven verticals a working operator sells into. Most operators specialise in two or three. The rest come in through referral once you're established.
Construction & progress
Weekly or milestone capture for payment claims, site records, and dispute protection.
Insurance & forensic
Post-event documentation that holds up to insurer scrutiny or legal challenge.
Asset inspection
Roofs, façade, towers, and structures captured without scaffolds or rope access.
Heritage & cultural
Archival-grade records of sites whose value outlives the physical structure.
Mining, quarry & earthworks
Volumetric work where the numbers carry dollar values and settlement depends on accuracy.
Agriculture & land
Contour mapping, drainage planning, and property records for land management.
Government & councils
Asset registers, parks and open space, road networks, and planning support.
Two courses. Same practice.
Both run inside the same working commercial operation, with the same instructors, the same equipment, and the same standard. The short course is the entry point. The long course is the full path. You can stop at either, or step up from one to the other.
PDC Introduction to Aerial Surveying
The fast start. For career-changers, tradies, up-skillers, and pilots testing the water before committing to the full five days. A live field day, a full processing pipeline run, and two credentials at the end.
- CASA Commercial Drone Operators Certificate
- PDC Introduction to Aerial Surveying
Not sure which pathway applies? Ask us. Same business day reply.
PDC Advanced Aerial Surveying
The full path. Software depth, a live field day, post-processing, deliverables, the extraction layer, and three credentials at the end. The natural destination for short course graduates and the primary product for direct enrolments.
- CASA Commercial Drone Operators Certificate
- PIX4Dmatic Certified Operator
- PDC Advanced Aerial Surveying
Self-paced module library, included.
Every course includes the full PDC module library to work through at your own pace after the live course closes. Not required to complete during the course. Reference material you'll come back to across weeks and months as you build your skills.
Start short. Step up when you're ready.
Finish the short course, then join the next long form intake at Day 4. Same cohort, same instructors, no special handling. The upgrade credit only applies within 14 days of finishing the short course. The fast decision gets the lower number.
